CBS report on youtube-solar panel theft on the rise
Solar panel theft is on the rise, more and more owners of solar power systems are reporting thefts of their solar panels. Now I know not a lot is said about the security of your solar power system, but I feel this is a good time to break from the norm of solar panel education to help you not just keep your solar power system secure but all of your renewable alternative energy systems from walking away in the night.

Working a large part of my life in the law enforcement industry I can tell you that if there is money to be made off of someone else’s hard work then there will be thieves hiding around the corner. One point to remember is a security system is only as good as the owner of the security system.

What I mean is you can put in the most expensive security system in but if no one monitors the system, the system just will not work. The biggest mistake I see comes down to complacency. So you put security cameras in that is great, did you hit record tonight or will theft never happen to you.

What about just watching the neighborhood, I know you don’t like to be nosey but if someone is going to take you solar power system they will almost always scope out your place first. A lot of renewable alternative power systems are attached to houses or buildings. This means planning not just grab and run. Maybe the meter reader is poking around too much in your backyard, another words keep your eyes open for the guy that just does not fit into your neighborhood.

I don’t want to go on about security, I just want to make you aware of this dark side of going green. I just feel that you have put a lot of time and money into your renewable alternative energy system and to have it just walk away really sucks. So keep your head up and your eyes open and your alternative power system will last you a long time.
